Cover Letters for Poetry (Change as applicable for fiction or creative nonfiction.)

For cover letters, use a clean sheet of white paper. This is not the place for recycled paper; keep the used-one-side stuff for your own drafts.

Make sure your ink cartridge has lots of ink. You don’t want grey. It looks awful.

Single space your letter. Double space between paras. Keep your document short.

Number of poems to send: three to six. If the poems are long, don’t send the higher number.

Key advice: read the flipping publication first. Only send to it if you like what you read. The chances are far greater that if you like what the magazine publishes, they’ll like what you write. Your stuff has got to resonate.
